Hight Street Shopping Guide: Where I Buy My Clothes & Accessories

Jonkin aikaa sitten kyselin Instagramissa minkälaisia postauksia haluaisitte täällä blogissa nähdä, ja ihanan Anun shoppailuvinkkipyynnön innoittamana päätin laittaa kasaan kunnon shopping guide -postauksen ja listata omat vakkarikauppani esimerkiksi bleisereille, farkuille, asusteille ja kengille. Vaikka kuinka haluaisin omistaa vaatekaapin täynnä laadukkaampia ja hieman "parempia" merkkejä, totuus on kuitenkin se että suurin osa kaapin sisällöstä on ketjuliikkeistä ostettua. Siitä huolimatta suurin osa omistamistani vaatteista on ollut käytössä jo pitkään, parhaimmillaan useamman vuoden, mikä puolestaan osoittaa sen että ketjuliikkeistäkin voi tehdä aikaa ja käyttöä kestäviä löytöjä, kunhan tietää mihin mennä ja mitä etsiä. Tässä siis mun opas ketjuliikkeissä shoppailuun, parilla pienellä poikkeuksella!

A little while ago I asked you on Instagram what you would like to see and read here on the blog, and the lovely Anu wrote that she'd like some shopping tips. And so here I am today with my (mostly) high street shopping guide stating the shops I tend to go for when buying e.g. blazers, jeans, accessories and shoes. Although I would really love to have a wardrobe filled with high-quality and more premium brands, the reality is that most of its contents really are just from the high street. However, most of the items I have in there have been worn, used and loved for a long time, multiple years at best, which again shows that you can make timeless finds that can be worn over and over again, if you only know where to go and what to look for. So here's my guide on shopping on the high street, with a couple tiny exceptions!

Perusvaatteet (t-paidat, topit, kauluspaidat...): Asos, H&M

Hyviä perusvaatteita löytää esimerkiksi Asoksen omien brändien valikoimasta ja H&M:ltä. Kun tsekkaa materiaalit, noudattaa pesulapun ohjeita ja pitää vaatteista muutenkin hyvää huolta niin ne kestävät käytössä pitkään!

Bleiserit: Zara, Mango, &Other Stories

Zaran ja Mangon bleiserit ovat molemmat hintaansa nähden todella hyviä, ja mulla on ollut molempien brändien bleisereitä käytössä jo vuosia! &Other Storiesilta en ole itse asiassa koskaan ostanut mitään, mutta hypistellyt ja katsellut kyllä juurikin esimerkiksi brändin bleisereitä, jotka vaikuttavat todella hyviltä. Hieman hintavampia kuin Zaran ja Mangon bleiserit, mutta vaikuttavat kyllä myös astetta laadukkaammilta ja kestävämmiltä. Kaikkien kolmen brändin bleiserivalikoimasta löytyy myös aina niitä ihan perinteisiä toimistojakkuja, mutta myös trendikkäämpiä vaihtoehtoja kuhunkin sesonkiin!

Basics (t-shirts, camisoles, button downs...): Asos, H&M

Asos private labels and H&M have a good selection of basic pieces. When you just check the materials, follow the washing instructions on the tag and generally take good care of the items they last a long time in use!

Blazers: Zara, Mango, &Other Stories

Both Zara and Mango blazers actually offer good value for money, and I've used blazers from both brands for years already! When it comes to &Other Stories, I've never actually bought anything from them, but precisely e.g. the brand's blazers do look good. They are usually a little bit more expensive than the Zara and Mango ones, but also seem to me of being of better quality and more durable too. The blazer selection of all three brands always covers the classic suit style blazers for the office, but also trendier pieces for each season!

Farkut: Asos, Zara, GAP, Topshop

Mä olen siirtynyt käyttämään melkeinpä pelkästään Asoksen omien brändien farkkuja, ja oon ollut niihin kyllä tyytyväinen! Myös Zarasta oon tehnyt yllättävän hyviä farkkulöytöjä. GAP:in ja Topshopin tarjonta tulee yleensä myös katsastettua farkkuja etsiessä, vaikka niistä harvemmin mitään kotiin lähteekään. 

Neuleet: Second hand -kaupat, H&M, &Other Stories

Vähän ketjuliikkeistä poiketen, neuleita lähden aina ensimmäiseksi metsästämään second hand -liikkeistä ja kirpputoreilta! Käytettynä löytää yleensä paljon parempia ja laadukkaampia neuleita huomattavasti edullisemmalla hinnalla kuin ketjuliikkeistä, ja hyvin hoidettuina nekin kestävät käytössä vielä monia vuosia. Omat eniten käytetyt ja parhaimmat neuleeni olenkin löytänyt nimenomaan second handina. Jos taas katsoo ketjuliikkeiden valikoimaa, niin H&M ja &Other Stories olisivat mun valinnat. Erityisesti neuleiden osalta kannattaa myös katsoa ketjuliikkeiden (esimerkiksi juuri H&M:n) premium-mallistot, joissa on yleensä käytetty hieman laadukkaampia materiaaleja ja luonnonkuitu/tekokuitu -suhde on astetta parempi. 

Denim: Asos, Zara, GAP, Topshop

I've moved almost solely to Asos own brand jeans, and I've been really happy with them! I've also made some surprisingly good denim purchases from Zara. GAP and Topshop are also stores I usually check when on the market for a new pair of jeans, although I rarely end up actually buying anything from them. 

Knitwear: Second hand shops, H&M, &Other Stories

As a little exception to the traditional high street stores, knitwear is something I've started to always search first from second hand stores, vintage boutiques, charity shops, etc.! The knitwear you can find as second hand is usually of a lot better quality than the high street alternatives and at a much more affordable price point. And when you handle them with care they will last in your use yet another multiple years. My most used and best jumpers are exactly second hand purchases. If you look at the high street options, H&M and &Other Stories would be my choices. When it comes to knitwear especially, it's worth checking the premium collections that many high street brands are offering (for example H&M has a Premium Quality collection), since the materials used in them are generally speaking better and the ratio between synthetic and natural materials used is usually a bit better too. 

Asusteet: Mango, Zara, H&M

Mangolla, Zaralla ja H&M:llä on aina ihan huikeat asustevalikoimat! Näiltä brändeiltä löytyy aina uusimpien trendien mukaiset korut, laukut, huivit, hatut ja muut asusteet, mutta myös klassisempia vaihtoehtoja joita voi käyttää vuodesta toiseen. Asusteiden kanssa kannattaa myös katsastaa premium-mallistot, erityisesti niiden klassikoiden osalta! Tiedän ainakin että H&M:n Premium -mallistosta löytyy esimerkiksi ajattomia nahkalaukkuja ja villahuiveja. 

Kauden trendit: Primark, Asos, Topshop

Sesonkitrendien kohdalla suosin erityisesti Primarkia, sillä sieltä todella löytää kauden isoimmat trendit kaikkein edullisimmin, eikä rahallinen menetys ja harmi ole niin suuri mikäli käykin niin että trendi todella jää siihen yhteen kauteen. Primarkista ostan myös usein sellaisia juttuja, joita haluan ikään kuin "testata" edullisesti ennen kuin mahdollisesti sijoitan parempaan ja laadukkaampaan versioon. Parhaimpana esimerkkinä tästä on mun viime vuoden teddy-takki, josta tulikin lopulta mun viime talven käytetyin takki. Nyt kun tiedän että pörröiselle nalletakille kertyy käyttökertoja, uskallan seuraavalla kerralla sijoittaa mahdollisesti johonkin hieman laadukkaampaan ja arvokkaampaan teddy-takkiin. Asos ja Topshop ovat myös aina uusimpien ja kuumimpien trendien harjalla, ja niissä shoppailen yleensä silloin kun tiedän jo valmiiksi että trendivaatteille tulee monta käyttökertaa (esimerkiksi tämä leopardihame ja tämä käärmekuosipaita).

Accessories: Mango, Zara, H&M

Mango, Zara and H&M all have an amazing selection of accessories! These brands always stock the trendiest jewellery, bags, scarves, hats and other accessories, but also some more classic pieces that can be used season and year after another. And as with knitwear, premium collections are worth having a look at for accessories too! I know that the premium collection of H&M, for instance, includes timeless leather bags and woollen scarves. 

Seasonal trends: Primar, Asos, Topshop

With seasonal trends I tend to favour Primark, as they really do have the latest trends at the lowest prices, and therefore the monetary loss won't be as high if that trend really is a 'one season wonder'. I also go to Primark for the kind of items I want to test drive before potentially investing in a more expensive, higher quality version. The best example of this is my teddy coat from last year that eventually became my most used winter coat. Now that I know I'll get a lot of wear out of a teddy coat, next time I can consider investing in a bit more costly and better quality one. Asos and Topshop also always have the latest trend items in their selection, and they are my destinations of choice for the trendy pieces that I already know I will love and get a lot of wear out of (for example this leopard skirt and this snakeprint blouse).

Kengät: Vagabond, River Island, Primark

Tätäkään ei ehkä varsinaisesti lasketa perinteiseksi ketjuliikkeeksi, mutta hinta-laatusuhteeltaan kaikkein parhaimmat kengät löytyy ehdottomasti Vagabondilta! Sekä minä että äitini ollaan käytetty Vagabondin kenkiä jo vuosia, ja ne kyllä kestävät käyttöä ja kulutusta. Suosittelenkin katsastamaan Vagabondin valikoiman jos haussa on aikaa kestävät klassiset nahkakengät. Omat edelleen käytössä olevat chelsea-nilkkurit ovat varmasti jo lähemmäs 10 vuotta vanhat ja edelleen menossa mukana. Trendikenkiä puolestaan kannattaa lähteä etsimään River Islandilta ja Primarkista! 

Takit: New Look, H&M, &Other Stories

Takkien kohdalla on pakko mainita New Look! Oma, blogissakin jo monta monta kertaa näkynyt, kamelitakki on nimenomaan New Lookin, ostettu vuonna 2015 ja näyttää edelleen siistiltä! Saan siitä myös edelleen kehuja ja kyselyitä melkeinpä joka kerta kun se on päällä. H&M:n valikoimasta löytyy myös todella hyviä takkivaihtoehtoja (jälleen, tsekkaa myös premium-mallisto!), ja &Other Storiesin takeista olen niistäkin kuullut paljon hyvää vaikkei omaa käyttökokemusta olekaan.

Shoes: Vagabond, River Island, Primark

This maybe doesn't count as a traditional high street brand either, but Vagabond truly has the best shoes with the best value for money! Both my mum and I have been using the brand for years now, and I can report that they stand the test of time and wear. I definitely recommend checking out Vagabond if you're looking for a pair of classic and timeless leather shoes. I think my Vagabond chelsea boots are getting close to being 10 years old, and they're still going strong! And for the trendiest shoes of the season I would head to River Island or Primark. 

Outerwear: New Look, H&M, &Other Stories

With coats I just have to mention New Look! My camel coat, that you've seen many a time here on the blog too, is from them and even though I bought it back in the autumn of 2015 it still looks good! I also still get compliments and questions about it whenever I'm wearing it. I feel like H&M also has quite a good selection of outerwear (and again, check the premium collection!), and I've heard good things about &Other Stories jackets and coats too, although I don't have personal experience of those.
