Layering for Early Summer Days

Viime viikonloppuna todella tuntui ensimmäistä kertaa jo ihan kunnon kesältä. Auringonpaiste, lämpö, hymyt ihmisten huulilla, Marimekon muotinäytökset Espalla, vuoden ekat grillailut, vaellus (ja pieni eksyminen) Nuuksiossa, kylmä valkkari, ja lämpimät valoisat illat saivat kyllä aikaan fiiliksen että nyt se kesä on täällä!

Last weekend was the first time when it really did feel like proper summer. Sunshine, warmth, the smiles on people's lips, Marimekko fashion shows at the Esplanad park, first BBQ food of the year, hiking (and getting a little bit lost) in Nuuksio, cold white wine, and warm and light evenings made me really feel like this is it - summer is here!



Kesäfiiliksen myötä päälle päätyi myös astetta kesäisempi asu. Koska näin alkukesästä lämpötilat ei kuitenkaan nouse vielä ihan hellelukemiin, niin kevyt kesäkerrostaminen toimii kaikkein parhaiten. Kesämekko, ohuet sukkahousut, kevyt takki ja kesäiset asusteet on helppo kokonaisuus nimenomaan näihin päiviin kun lämpötilat pyörii noin kahdenkympin kieppeillä ja yllättävä tuuli saattaa tuntua viileältä.

Oman mekkoni löysin Puutorin Kirppikseltä Turussa, jossa kävin päiväreissulla moikkaamassa paria turkulaistunutta kaveria viime viikon torstaina. Mekko on alunperin Lindexiltä, 100% puuvillaa eikä rokottanut lompakkoa kuin neljän euron verran! Tällaisia helppoja kesävaatteita tarvitsee joka vuosi, ja tällä hetkellä kesävaatekaapista puuttuikin tällainen niin rannalle kuin vaikkapa brunssillekin sopiva mekko. Nyt on siis se aukko täytetty taas, ja ennustan tälle löydölle monia monia käyttökertoja tulevana kesänä.

With the summer feeling obviously comes a more summery outfit too. But since the temperatures don't rise all the way up to the heatwave scale on these early summer days, light summer layering is the best way forward. A summer dress, a pair of thin tights, light jacket and summery accessories create an easy ensemble for days like these when the temperatures are around the 20 degrees celsius mark and you never know when a sudden gust of wind might hit you. 

I found this white summer dress in a second hand store in Turku on my little day trip last Thursday. It's originally from Lindex, 100% cotton and took me back a mere 4€! These kind of easy summer clothes that can be worn on the beach just as well as on a brunch are needed every year, and I was actually missing a number like this in my summer wardrobe. But now that gap has been filled again and I'm predicting plenty of usage for this dress the coming season.



Viikonloppuna kun ei tosiaan oltu vielä ihan hellelukemissa, sai mekko kaverikseen pitsikuvioiset sukkahousut ja farkkutakin. Kevyt kerrostaminen toimi paremmin kuin hyvin, ja takkihan on helppo riisua ja pukea uudelleen juurikin vaikkapa siitä tuulisuudesta riippuen. Vielä kesäiset asusteet aurinkolasien ja tämän vuoden trendikkään punotun kesäkassin muodossa niin alkukesän päiviin sopiva look on kasassa! Rehellisyyden nimissä olisin kyllä tehnyt fiksun vedon jos olisin laittanut jalkaan mitkä tahansa muut kengät, yksinkertaisesti siitä syystä että aina unohdan kuinka jäätävät rakot nämä tupsukengät mun pikkuvarvasparkoihin aina tekee. Täytyy kyllä oikeasti varmaan piakkoin suunnata kenkäostoksille, tämänhetkinen kesäkenkätilanne kun ei tosiaan ole erityisen hyvä.

Last weekend when we didn't quite get to those heatwave temperatures yet, I paired the dress together with a pair of lace tights and a denim jacket. Light layering works better than well for days like that, and the jacket is easy to take off or put back on depending on how windy it is. I added summery accessories in the form of sunglasses and a trendy woven / macrame bag and my perfect look for early summer days was ready! To be perfectly honest with you, it would've been wise to wear any other pair of shoes, purely for the reason that I always forget the crazy blisters these give my poor little toes. I think I really need to do some summer shoe shopping soon, as my current situation is not particularly good.
