Summer Must Do: Day in Porvoo + 5 Places to Visit in the City

Visiitti Porvooseen kuuluu kesään, niin kuin mun kesän bucket listillä totesinkin. Viime viikolla sainkin tän kohdan yliviivattua tältä kesän 2019 listalta kun otettiin Inkan ja Hennan kanssa suunnaksi ihana kesäinen, joskin melko tuulinen, Porvoo. Vietettiin kunnon tyttöjen iltapäivää ensin pitkään lounaalla istuen ja sen jälkeen vain ympäriinsä kävellen, kuvaillen ja söpöissä putiikeissa poiketen. Pistäydyttiin sekä mulle entuudestaan tuttuihin paikkoihin että ihan uusiin tuttavuuksiin, ja tässä tuleekin viisi muistamisen ja vierailun arvoista paikkaa mikäli suunnitteilla on vaikkapa kesälomareissu Porvooseen!

A trip to Porvoo is a summer must for me as I mentioned on my summer bucket list. Last week I was able to tick this off from the 2019 summer bucket list when we headed to the beautiful, albeit quite windy, Porvoo with Inka and Henna. We spent a true girls' afternoon in the city, starting with a long lunch and then just walking around, taking photos and visiting cute little boutiques. We popped in to some of my old favourite spots in Porvoo, as well as in new-to-me places. Take note of these five places if you're planning e.g. a summer holiday trip to Porvoo! 

Kahvilat / Ravintolat - Cafes / Restaurants

Zum Beispiel
Rihkamakatu 2, 06100, Porvoo

Ihan vanhan ja uuden kaupungin rajalla keskustassa sijaitseva viihtyisä ravintola, jonka ulkopuolelle on myös parkkeerattu super söpö jäätelöauto. Terassikin löytyy, vaikka me päädyttiin tuulisen sään vuoksi lounastamaan sisätiloissa. Hyvä ja kattava lounaslista, ja erityisruokavaliot on myös huomioitu! Lounaaseen kuuluu myös runsas leipäpöytä levitteineen ja öljyineen, sekä kahvi/tee. Päädyttiin tänne vielä myöhemmin iltapäivällä jätskeille ennen kotiinlähtöä, ja silloin kun ulkona oleva jätskiauto on jo sulkenut niin Zum Beispielin omia jäätelöitä saa myös sisältä kahvilan puolelta.  Tätä ravintolaa olin itse asiassa silmäillyt jo viime kesänä, joten oli ihanaa päästä tällä kertaa myös syömään Zum Beispielissä!

Just at the border between the old and new town in the city centre is this really cosy restaurant that even has a super cute ice cream van parked outside. They've got a terrace too, but we ended up lunching indoors as the day was quite windy. They've got a good lunch menu and special diets and requirements are catered for as well! Lunch menu orders include also a bread board with multiple varieties of breads, spreads and oils, as well as coffee/tea. We actually ended up going here for a little afternoon ice cream treat before heading back home, and when the ice cream van outside has closed for the day you can get Zum Beispiel's own ice creams inside the cafe. This is actually a restaurant I had had my eyes on already last summer, so it was great to finally go and eat here too!

Cafe Pos3
Gabriel Hagertin kuja, 06100, Porvoo

Tänne ei itse asiassa viime Porvoon reissulla päädytty, mutta Cafe Pos3 on vanha lemppari aiemmilta Porvoo-visiiteiltä. Vanhassa kaupungissa sijaitseva moderniin skandinaavisen minimalistiseen tapaan sisustettu kahvila tarjoilee kahvilaherkkujen lisäksi lounasta ja gelatoa, sekä viikonloppuisin brunssia.

We actually did not go to Cafe Pos3 this time, but this cafe is an old favourite from previous Porvoo visits. The cafe is situated in the old town of Porvoo and the interiors represent beautiful modern Scandinavian style. Alongside your traditional cafe treats, Cafe Pos3 also serves lunch, gelato and brunch on weekends.

Kellarikirppis

Samalla kadulla Zum Beispiel -ravintolan kanssa sijaitsevalle, nimensä mukaisesti kellarissa sijaitsevalle, kirpputorille jatkettiin kätevästi lounaan jälkeen. Henna, Inka ja minä ollaan kaikki aikamoisia kirppistelijöitä ja second hand -shoppailijoita, joten halusin ehdottomasti näyttää tytöille tämän Porvoon kirpputorin jossa kävin itse ensimmäistä kertaa viime kesänä. Tällä kertaa poistuttiin kaikki tyhjin käsin, mutta kirpputori on ehdottomasti vierailun arvoinen ja sieltä voi hyvällä tuurilla tehdä vaikka mitä löytöjä! Esimerkiksi äitini bongasi viime kesänä vanhan piippuleimalla leimatun Arabian kastikekannun vain muutamalla eurolla. 

On the same street with the restaurant Zum Beispiel is this flea market called Kellarikirppis (=cellar flea market), which according to the name you'll find in the cellar of a building. All three of us are really into vintage and second hand shopping at the moment, so I definitely wanted to show this flea market to the girls after first visiting there myself last summer. This time we left empty handed, but this spot is well worth a visit anyway as you can find some true gems in there! For example, last summer my mum found an old vintage design saucer for a mere few euros.

Vanhan ja uuden kaupungin rajalla keskustassa sijaitsevassa By Pia's -myymälässä kävin nyt itse ensimmäistä kertaa, vaikka brändi on kyllä itselleni entuudestaan tuttu. Liike on moderniin maalaisromanttiseen tyyliin sisustettu, valoisa, avara ja tuotevalikoimasta löytyy toinen toistaan ihanampia sisustusjuttuja, kenkiä, vaatteita ja asusteita. Ihan erityisesti ihastuin kaikkiin ihaniin kori-, punos- ja rottinkituotteisiin, ja jos budjetti (ja matkalaukun tila) sallisi, sisustaisin omankin kämppäni niillä enemmän kuin mielelläni! Erityismaininta muuten myös todella ystävällisestä ja lämpimästä palvelusta! By Pia's -liikkeitä löytyy myös ympäri pääkaupunkiseutua, sekä esimerkiksi Turusta, Hangosta, Oulusta ja Norjastakin!

Also on the border of the old and new town of Porvoo is a boutique called By Pia's that I only went inside for the first time now, although I've known the brand for quite a while. The shop is decorated in a modern country romance style and it is light, bright and spacious. The product selection consists of different kinds of beautiful home interior products, shoes, clothes and accessories. I fell in love with especially all of the gorgeous woven and basket items, and if only my budget (and space in suitcase) would allow, I'd be more than happy to decorate my home with some of the pieces too! And a special mention for the super friendly and welcoming customer service! By Pia's has boutiques outside of Porvoo too, e.g. in the capital area and in Turku, Hanko, Oulu and even Norway!

Finform

Lundinkatu 7, 06100, Porvoo

Finform oli mulle ihan uusi tuttavuus, mutta täällä täytyy kyllä päästä käymään seuraavallakin kerralla! Finform myy design-merkkien piensisustustuotteita, kodin tekstiileitä, asusteita ja herkkuja pienessä mutta inspiroivassa myymälässä. Täälläkin oli sisustushoukutuksia vaikka kuinka paljon, ja jos minimalistinen skandinaavinen sisustustyyli inspiroi niin kannattaa ehdottomasti suunnata Finformin liikkeeseen. Porvoon lisäksi Finform löytyy myös Kotkasta.

Finform was a completely new acquaintance for me, but it definitely became a Porvoo must visit! Finfrom sells small interior items from design brands, home textiles, accessories and some delicacies in a tiny but inspiring boutique. There were quite a few home decor temptations in here too, and if the minimalistic Scandinavian interior style is your thing, then make sure to head to Finform! Finform has another store also in Kotka.
