How to Make the Most of Your Wardrobe

Kirjoitinkin jo aiemmin Fashion Challenge 2020 -postauksessa, että tänä vuonna otan haasteekseni käyttää ja yhdistellä vaatteitani hieman luovemmin ja monipuolisemmin jotta saan vaatekaapistani kaiken irti. Ja tässä tuleekin hyvä ja helppo esimerkki, nimittäin mekon pukeminen paidaksi!

In my Fashion Challenge 2020 post I wrote how this year I'm making it my mission/challenge to use and combine my clothes a little bit more creatively and variously to make the most out of my wardrobe. And here is a good and easy example on exactly that: wearing a dress as a top! 



Olen kyllä joskus aiemminkin pukenut mekkoja paidoiksi housujen kanssa, mutta jotenkin tämä taktiikka oli päässyt täysin unohtumaan. Viime viikolla kuitenkin vedin tämän BikBokin mustan silkkimekon päälle ja tungin helman farkkuihin - ja niin mekko kääntyi super helposti ja nopeasti kauniiksi silkkipuseroksi! Mekko on kietaisumallia, minkä vuoksi siinä on vyötäröllä solmukiinnitys, joka puolestaan osuu just eikä melkein oikeaan kohtaan kun mekon yhdistää paidaksi farkkujen kanssa.

I've worn dresses as shirts with trousers a few times before, but somehow I had totally forgotten this technique. However, last week I put on this black silky dress from BikBok and tucked the skirt part inside my jeans - and so the dress became a beautiful silk blouse super quickly and easily! Because it is a wrap dress it has a tie/knot detail at the waist, which sits just at the right place when the dress is worn as a blouse together with jeans.

Mekkojen yhdistäminen housuihin tuo luonnollisesti niille hurjasti lisää käyttöaikaa, ja paitoina käytettyinä ja tarpeeksi kerroksia lisäämällä ohuitakin mekkoja voi näin ollen käyttää ihan vuoden ympäri. Käytin viime kesänä todella paljon erilaisia mekkoja, ja nyt voinkin kaivaa ne taas esiin paljon aiemmin kuin ajattelin kun muistin tämän stailauskikan. Mekon voisi hyvin yhdistää myös pidempien hameiden kanssa, ja esimerkiksi juurikin tämä kietaisumekko näyttäisi varmasti super hyvältä vaikkapa leopardiprinttisen midihameen kanssa. Se look siis ehdottomasti kokeiluun myöhemmin keväällä, tai miksei myös jo nyt aiemmin mustien sukkahousujen kanssa.

Combining dresses with trousers obviously gives them a whole lot more wear time too, and when worn as a top and with enough layers even a lighter dress can be worn throughout the year. Last summer I got really into dresses, and now that I remember this little styling tip I can actually get them out again a whole lot sooner than I thought. Dresses could also easily be combined with longer skirts, and for example this wrap dress would surely look amazing together with a leopard print midi skirt, for instance. So that's definitely something to try a little later in the spring, or now with a pair of black tights.
